Welcome to Corona Day Nursery School Ikoyi
The Happy School
It is an honour to welcome you to Corona Day Nursery Ikoyi, the flagship school of all Corona Schools. The word Corona is a Latin word which means: a crown, a garland.
In ancient Rome, it means a crown or garland bestowed for distinguished military service.
Since 1955, we have delivered world-class educational services in a beautiful, secure, and serene environment, where we lay the foundation for the development of the total child from three months to five years.
Our school is a welcoming and nurturing environment where the children feel physically and emotionally safe as they build skills, interests, and passions to prepare for lifelong learning.
With our rich curriculum right from the creche, playschool to the nursery, we have a wide range of learning opportunities which is developmentally appropriate to cater to their various milestones.
We have a large playground with child-size playground equipment. Our core curriculum focuses on developing; life skills, math, language arts, music, art, natural science, geography and history as they relate to the child using the Montessori material as instructional materials alongside other indigenous early years resources.
In addition to the core curriculum, we go on field trips and offer extracurricular activities such as ballet, dance, football, golf, basketball, athletics, taekwondo.
We work in close partnership with parents to support our children on their learning journey.
Our classrooms are well lit, well ventilated and furnished with child-sized shelves and stocked with Montessori materials. These materials arouse their curiosity, interest, secure their attention while promoting motivation and teach them independence and concentration.
Each class has an interactive flat panel for teaching and learning. It is home away from home, with qualified Montessori teachers and nurses.
Corona Day Nursery Ikoyi is a happy school; hence the slogan “The Happy School Where Dreams Come True”.
We look forward to hearing from you and working in close partnership with you, as we further enrich your child’s learning journey at Corona Day Nursery, Ikoyi.

Our History
Ikoyi Day Nursery is the cradle of all Corona Schools and the history of the school is the history of Corona School as a whole.
In 1954 a proposal was laid by Mrs Anne MacDonald, who was at the time Headmistress of a Lagos School and committee member of The Corona Women’s Society, that the society should open a small school for children of all races between the ages of 3 and 5 years.
In March 1955, the first Corona School, Ikoyi Day Nursery was opened at the Society’s Headquarters at 35, First Avenue, Ikoyi with five pupils. The school was initially financed by the cash donation of £50 from Chief Mandilas and gifts of furniture and fittings from well-wishers.
The five pupils quickly grew to twenty. Word spread through the parental grapevine and appeals were made to the committee to open a school at Ebute-Metta from where other Corona Schools sprang up.
Today this Corona School is still at its first location over 68 years after and is ably managed by the 18th Head of School, Mrs Ijeoma Nnaji who took over the school’s administration from Mrs Olaitan Shogaolu at the start of the 2022/2023 Academic Session.
Mrs Olaitan Shogaolu who took over the school’s administration after the demise of Late. Mrs Esther Abakasanga who passed on the 16th of June, 2019 while still serving as the 16th Head of School. Mrs. Ijeoma Nnaji is the current Head of School.
