Our Goal

The goal of the CSTC’s initiative for Out-of-School children is to enrol out-of-school children in underserved communities in Lagos State over a period of nine years for their basic education (primary and junior secondary schools) Through the help of partners, we intend to support them up tertiary level.

As we continue to scale and expand the resources and partnerships committed to this project, CSTC is committed to the fulfilment of the beneficiaries’ educational pursuits or skill acquisition.

Stages of Basic Education

(9 years)

  • Lower Primary School (Pry 1-3)
  • Upper Primary School (Pry 4-6)
  • Junior Secondary School (JSS 1-3)

Our Why

One of the core values of the Trust Council is ‘Service to the Community” and with the Corona Schools’s Out-of-School Initiative, a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project under the Corona Connect series, the Trust Council aims to transform the lives of children in underserved communities through scholarships, provision of educational supplies, teacher development and facility upgrades.

The Initiative kickstarted in 2019, sponsoring the education of 100 indigent children in Takwa Bay and Makoko areas of Lagos State for the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 academic sessions through an NGO. In the year 2020, the Trust Council granted a full scholarship on compassionate grounds to Jennifer Williams, a young girl from an underserved community who had to drop out of school due to an arm infection that eventually led to her being an amputee. The scholarship covers her tuition, textbooks, stationeries, school uniforms and all other educational needs throughout her entire secondary education, valued at over N45 million. Williams is currently in Year 12, gearing for her terminal exams all covered by the Trust Council.

Beyond Tarkwa Bay and Makoko, the Trust Council proceeded to the Ago-Egun community of Bariga LCD where 25 pupils were selected with the help of community leaders, and enrolled into Adeife Sodipo-Akindeko Memorial Primary School, Bariga in the 2021/2022 session. The focus was on children aged 6-15 years who are out of school, offering them the chance to enrol in Lagos State public schools.

Till date, Corona has enrolled three cohorts of 75 children in total from the same community. Beyond enrolment, CSTC has made significant investments in improving the learning environment for these children, including the upgrade of Adeife Sodipo-Akindeko Memorial Primary School’s library. The newly refurbished library, officially commissioned alongside the second cohort, was designed to inspire a culture of reading and lifelong learning.

The spirit of community service is deeply ingrained in the Corona Schools’ ethos. The recently graduated Class 6 pupils of all Corona primary schools, with the support of their parents, demonstrated this by embarking on a CSR project, where they donated essential items to the underserved, and to Corona’s adopted schools across Lagos including welfare materials, playground equipment, and educational materials.

Projects like these are conducted annually to prepare pupils to become compassionate and socially responsible individuals.

Corona Schools also partnered with the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) to visit eight government-owned primary schools in Bariga in celebration of the 2024 Children’s Day. Over 2,500 packets of cereal and milk were generously donated in conjunction with Lagos Food Bank (LFB) to the children.

These initiatives serve as a strong reminder of the Trust Council’s enduring legacy of education, community service, and positive societal impact. We inspire excellence in education and will continue to work with stakeholders to build a future where every child has access to a well-rounded education.

Full Scholarship: Jennifer Williams

Jennifer Williams was discovered during a Slum2School Africa medical outreach program. She had been out of school for four years due to a tragic ailment that led to the amputation of her right arm. After rehabilitation, Jennifer was eager to return to school. In 2019, Slum2School Africa coordinators presented her case to CSTC Management.

The Governing Board approved her scholarship on compassionate grounds, aligning with their corporate responsibility strategy. Jennifer was admitted to Year 7 at Corona Secondary School, Agbara, where she has been stable and thriving. She is currently in Year 10.

Initiative for Out-of-school Children

Corona Schools took the Connect Series in 2022 directly into Ago-Egun, an underserved community in Bariga LCDA in 2022 with high number of out-of-school children. Twenty-five of the out-of-school children were registered in Adeife Akindeko-Sodipo Memorial Primary School for the 2022/2023 academic session and provided everything needed like uniforms, school bags, books, pencils, rulers, etc.

To keep these beneficiaries of Corona initiative for out-of-school children in underserved community in school, Corona supports their parents with food items and clothes to relieve them of some burdens.

Corona Schools’ Trust Council, through its ‘Out-Of-School Initiative,’ unveiled a significant upgrade to the library at Adeife Sodipo-Akindeko Memorial Primary School. This initiative, which began last year, sponsors 50 students at the school. To mark the second cohort of 25 students, the Council enhanced and stocked the library to support ongoing learning.

The event on October 17, 2023, featured notable guests including Education Secretary Somolu LGEA, Hon. Dare Martins Onakoya, and other dignitaries. Representatives from Corona Schools’ Trust Council, including CEO Mrs. Adeyoyin Adesina, were also present.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony, led by Hon. Dare Martins Onakoya, officially inaugurated the upgraded library. The initiative aims to provide essential learning tools, evidenced by the presentation of school uniforms, bags, notebooks, and water bottles to the new cohort of students.

Corona Schools continues to champion educational excellence and community development, helping children achieve brighter futures.

Adeife Teacher's Training

Corona Schools’ Trust Council (CSTC), in collaboration with Corona College of Education (CCED), organized a free one-day teacher training on June 20, 2024, at CMS Grammar School, Somolu LGEA. The training, themed ‘Personal Effectiveness: The Effective and Efficient Teacher,’ aimed to enhance the personal effectiveness and efficiency of public primary school teachers. Over 100 teachers from Somolu and Bariga attended, along with representatives from LASUBEB and Somolu LGEA.

The training focused on innovative teaching methodologies, best practices, classroom management, lesson planning, and personal effectiveness. Facilitated by Mrs. Adenike Onafeso, Head Consult of CCED, the sessions provided immense value, as confirmed by the teachers’ positive feedback.

Representatives from Corona Schools, CCED, and Somolu LGEA’s HOD for Education, Mr. Lawal, were present. The Corona Connect Series, a CSR initiative, continues to support education through sponsorships, library rehabilitation, material donations, feeding schemes, and more.

Welcoming the Third Cohort of Children to Adeife Primary School

As part of our ongoing Corona Connect Series, we are happy to announce the admission of the third cohort of children into Adeife Primary School.
