The Corona Day Secondary School (CDSS) located at Abijo GRA held their maiden Inter-house sports event on the 6th of April 2023 in a rich and colourful display of sportsmanship, talent and grit.

The event which held at the sports arena of CDSS Lekki was filled with excitement, ecstasy, competition, and lots of fun for all attendees. The maiden event witnessed an impressive turnout of students, parents, and teachers alike, and all school houses – Crane, Kingfisher, Heron, and Weaver – were represented in their beautiful colours.

The event commenced with the introduction of special guests – the Chairman, Corona Secondary Schools Board- Mr Niyi Yusuf , the CEO, Corona Schools’ Trust Council (CSTC), Mrs Adeyoyin Adesina, the CSTC Director of Education, Mrs Adetokunbo Matilukuro, the PTA Chairman, Mr Solomon Kadiri, the Chairman of the Event, Engr. Gerald Azonobo, Head of Corporate Services, CSTC, Miss Ngozi Ebo, , the CSTC Financial Controller, Mr Adewale Soremi, the Corporate Assurance Manager, Mrs Ruke Owoola, the Marketing and Corporate Communications Manager, Mrs Adebimpe Archibong, among other distinguished stakeholders.

The event kicked off with a march-past, where each house marched round the field displaying their colourful house banners, parade. and and . This was followed by other sport activities which included swimming, table tennis, football, the 100m race, the relay race, tug of war and the parents’ race.

The students and parents showed great sportsmanship and cheered each other on throughout the event.

Members of staff and parents also participated in some sporting activities with much display of energy and enthusiasm. They were fully invested in the event and were duly acknowledged by the CEO, Mrs Adesina in her interview with Schools’ Channel.

“This event was really a parent affair, they are having more fun than the children, and it’s also a good opportunity for family bonding”, Adesina said. “Corona Schools is committed to raising a well-rounded child.”

At the end of the event, the results were in, and the Kingfisher house emerged as the overall winner, with Crane house coming in a close second. Heron and Weaver houses also put in an impressive performance and made their houses proud.

Overall, the competition was a huge success. We are grateful to all the athletes, parents, staff, and special guests who made the events a memorable one. Congratulations to all the winners, and we look forward to an even more exciting interhouse sports competition next year!
