THE 2017 INTERSCHOOL QUIZ COMPETITION

The 9th edition of Corona school’s annual interschool quiz competition held on Thursday, 9th of November, 2017, at Corona School Victoria Island. The event commenced at 9a.m. with an audience comprising of members of the Corona Schools’ Trust Council, teachers, pupils, parents and members of the press.
The event started with a welcome address by the Director of Education, Mrs. Amelia Dafeta after which the Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Adeyoyin Adesina introduced Dr. (Mrs) Myma Belo Osagie, a Trustee and a member of the Governing Board Corona Schools’ Trust Council who gave her opening remark and key note address. Dr Belo-Osagie is and has been the sole sponsor of the Corona Interschool Quiz.
The competition, she said, was set up to broaden the pupils’ knowledge especially in general knowledge and current affairs
The quiz questions, all in digital format, were set in Mathematics, English, General Knowledge, Science and Mind Gym.
In addition, there were choral performances by the schools. The schools performed the same music piece; “The Candy Man” from Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory.  The words and music are by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley and arranged by Kirby Shaw. At the end of every section, the children in the audience were given an opportunity to choose and answer an audience question. Correct answers were rewarded with audience prizes.
At the end of the quiz competition, Corona School Ikoyi emerged first both in the quiz and the choral competition. Their interpretation, creativity and rendition of the music piece was spectacular. Corona School Victoria Island came second in the quiz and fifth in the choral competition. Coming third in the quiz and second in the choral was Corona School Apapa. Corona School Gbagada came fourth in the quiz and third in the choral competition. Corona School Lekki came fifth in the quiz and fourth in the choral competition.
The three schools were given trophies and plaques according to their positions in the quiz competition respectively; Ikoyi School, Victoria Island School, Apapa School.
The only plaque for the best in the music competition went to Ikoyi School; the 2017 champions.
Corona Secondary School in Agbara was not left out. Shalom Emeka had a beautiful poetry recitation. The four Corona houses competed in an impromptu speech competition. At the end of this segment, Heron house came first; Weaver house, second; coming third place was Crane house and Kingfisher house in fourth place.
It was indeed a memorable day and event.

    The pupils proved that Corona education is second to none.
